I've got nine 12-week old chickens (3 RIRs, 3 Barre Rocks and 3 "Americaunus" (that's what they were sold as)). We are newbie chicken parents. We didn't buy "sexed" chicks but were hopeful that, out of nine, we'd get at least six hens. Up until last night (when I started poking around on this thread), I was afraid that we had had at least five roosters (based on behavior). The pictures of 12-week old RIRs and Barre Rocks that I saw here have now led me to believe that we might have nine hens: no one has much of a crop or wattle yet (and they all look about the same, development wise). The chickens I am less certain about are the Americaunus because I couldn't see how roosters were distinguished from hens at 12 weeks from pictures I found.
I'm posting pictures of "Max" who is Mr. Personality in my flock. Only now I think that Max might be Maxine and am hoping someone here can opine. I'd love for Max to be Maxine because I can't keep roosters and I really like this bird.
Thanks in advance!
