Do you think they are trying to tell me something?

Like we have outgrown this brooder? This is how I usually find them when I go to check on them. We have six and the older three are always roosting up there. They don't jump down to the floor and run around the garage though. Luckily the coop is done (not the run). I'm just waiting for a warm dry day to dry out the sand we put in there.

Ha! well that didn't happen. I really didn't realize how much they had grown til I compared pics of when we first got them. They were all clustered into the corner and took up no space at all. Then I took another pic of them in the same corner. Only now the corner really was half of the tub. But they have found a way to make room and hopefully tomorrow or Saturday they will be out of there.

My chicks did this as well. In fact, a couple of mine did venture to the floor. They were so proud of themselves. I had them in the living room.

I had a Buff Orpington that found her way down. She proceeded to run from the living room into the kitchen and peep as loud as she could, then run back into the living room, look up at me and do it again. It was hilarious. If I got up and walked out, when I came back in she would dead run toward me and stop directly in front of me before whirling around and taking off the other direction. She felt so free.

Another time I got in a panic when I had left for a bit and came back. I did the required "head count" to make sure all 8 girls were accounted for. One of my Easter Eggers (my favorite one) was gone! I looked around a bit and then heard a peep. There she was sitting in my husband's spot on the couch watching me of course!

I never knew chickens were so silly. I have never been so entertained by any birds that I have owned and I have had a parrot.

How old are they? I just got my first chicks today and just curious how long it will be til they look like this. I was already thinking - hmm, I think I will need to get another brooder when they get a little bigger.

Mine do this now too! The coop and run should be complete this weekend. They are ready to have more space. They have taken over my sun room as their own domain and I find them in random locations throughout the house peeping for someone to find or join them!
