Do you use lights in the coop in the winter ? ?

I am new to chickens and I use light in my coop right now because I read they need 14hrs of light. I turn the light on at 5am when I leave for work and off at 6pm when I get home. My question is, when it gets dark before I get home and I tun the light out in the coop will the chickens fly up to the roost or will they roost on the floor because they can't see in the dark to fly up to the roost?
