Do you wear a helmet every time you ride?

I do. Only when I'm actually on the horse, though- if I'm doing groundwork or tacking or grooming or whatever, no WAY you're getting a helmet on me. I know people who wear a helmet every time they're within a twenty-foot radius of a horse, but I think that's just ridiculous (no offense if you do so).

Over 20 years on horseback and driving carts and wagons. No helmet, not ever.

I personally don't feel the need. If the condition warrants it I might want to reconsider the condition.

I've ridden and trained cutting horses, gaming horses, trail horses, show horses, pulling teams and jumpers. I've fallen, I've hit my head, it hurt, moving on.

I do wear a helmet on motorcycles, if the conditions warrant.

To date, the most severe concussion I have ever gotten was from being punched in the back of the head by a Marine. Should I wear a helmet evertime I see a Marine?

I my whole post could be simmered down to this statement... mostly. My paranoia doesn't stretch anywhere near to rounding up people and euthanising them... I have no idea how this got to this point.

Listen, if you ever woke to the sound of black helicopters landing in your back yard while masked soldiers jumped through your windows, held you down, and surgically fused your helmet to your head, you would be a little paranoid about this subject too.

If anyone is that scared and has to wear a helmet every time they are near a horse, seriously should get a bicycle. See that proves that helmets can give a false sense of security. Not good

Horse feathers I'm not talking about you in any way,I'm agreeing with you...I know people that wear helmets all the time !. They only want to ride because they think they look "cute" on a horse and of course daddy buys the BEST clothing for his princess and when she hits the dirt, gets a new horse because the other one was "bad"

Now that is a GREAT point. Fear is more dangerous than anything. I've scared myself a few times on my bike (while wearing a helmet not that it matters) and had to just stay off it for a few days until I felt ready to ride again. Fear slows down response time. A false sense of security can make someone take risks.
