Do you work in the medical field? Post here

Pediatric home health care nurse. I work nights and have been for 14 years. Before that I worked for an allergy/pulmonary group and while I was in nursing school worked as a secretary on the diabetic care unit as well as in a dr. office.

I started out as a CNA in a nursing home in 1988. Several years later worked my way up to CMA. Got REALLY tired of the nursing home scene so after 4 years of college I recieved my Associates in Applied Science in Radiology. Started out as a regular X-ray tech in a small rural hospital and in 2003 I started at a Level I trauma center doing vascular radiology. I had the pleasure of working with a world famous radiologist and spent many long, long nights dissolving blood clots in brains of stroke patients and fixing aneurysms. The satisfaction of seeing those patients come in to ER near death and walk out of the hospital a week later healthier than they were a year ago is unexplainable. I REALLY miss it! Last year, I had to move back to the rural community where I grew up to be closer to my Father, who is very ill. I love being back home, but I do miss $30 p/hour!!!! As of right now, I am a stay at home Mom and get to spend lots of time with my kids and my feathered friends!

My position at the university is half Large Animal Emergency and half Small Animal Emergency. Most days I love it (some times things you see are little hard)

I'm also currently working on my second bachelors in Zoology--maybe to pursue a masters after that in Exotic medicine?

I've been a registered nurse for 33 years, and a nurses aid before that. I have worked in rural hospitals with 30 beds, big hospitals with 600-1000 beds, home health, travel nursed, ran a medical practice for 13 years (my husband is a doc) did botox/restylane injections for a year. and now I guess I just got tired. I recently completed an apprenticeship in piercing and do body piercing in my daughter's tattoo shop. I also have a daughter who is an RN in an ER.

yeahhh to all the responses. I see a common theme. Many of us worked in several different aspects of medicine as our careers evolved. I am so glad you guys are chiming in. Yes transcriptionist , Veterinarian sciences, radiology all count. I knew we had allot of medical people here just from reading responses throughout the board.

Keep em coming.... woooooo (I've never had a thread go three pages)

This is where my evperience is Vet. med..I tried the hospital thing in resp. therapy. I just do not like to work on people or even be around the issues. I have all my experience as Vet. Tech., groomer(mainly show dogs). Along w a life time of raising, from day old on of many different species of animals. I spent a lot of time hand rearing big birds ect...just love the animals...the vet tech. experience is very helpful in caring for my own animals. Now I am retired and caring for my own..

I'm a NY EMT, but since I don't live in NY I'm not practicing. My small town however is considering stating it's own EMS service since the average response time for us currently is 45-60 mins.

I also worked in an ER for a few years as a nursing assistant.

I was a surgical technologist for 7 years and a medic in the army before that....now I am a stay at home mom for the past 3 years and not sure if I will ever go back.
