Do your chickens like to be sprayed with water?

Mine started off hating the water......whenever I washed off the deck the would nearly take flight to get out of the way. But with the recent, seemingly unending, bought of wet weather we had up here in the NE.......they have come to like it. Now whenever it rains they make no attempt to find shelter and we have had some downpours too. I also just noticed the other day that they didn't stop eating the scratch I had put out for them when I couldn't wait for them to finish before cleaning the patio.

Mine hate it! Even water being sprayed 20 feet away upsets them.

The hens won't complain a bit about being shut up on a rainy day. They have a "sun porch" on the east side so they can sit out there and enjoy the fresh air. If they come out in the backyard, it is only to hide under the deck.
Perhaps mist wouldn't set them off at a dead run

I just have one of those $10 free standing, spiral water misters that attaches to a garden hose. I got it from Lowes. I have it wired to the side of my chicken pen and they come and stand under it by themselves. They seem to like the mist.

Ours will wade in the water that is coming from a GENTLY running hose, but put anything on that sprays and they are gone from sight! I don't know if it is the noise or the actual water. They were out in the rain yesterday, so go figure!

Have three 7 yr old birds, they will sometimes just stand in the shade in one of their watering pans, eight 13 wk old pullets do the same. Had almost a month of hundred plus in the sun days (109 the highest so far) put my hose nozzle on shower or mist setting and cool all of them off at least once a day, they all know how much personal wet they want and will retreat from the wet zone. I've lost birds to excess heat in past yrs.

Whenever I let my first batch of ducks out to free range. Sprayed them with hose... overhead sprinkle. Not sure at first...then they stood on their tippy toes and flapped their wings. I swear they smiling that day.
