I used to have a flock of six, and then last week, predators cut me down to 3. The three who were lost were the most dominant, and the three who remain now REALLY stick together.

Daffodil has always been at the bottom of the pecking order, but my chickens are very gentle with each other; there's not actual pecking of each other or anything. I actually named her Daffodil so that i could call her Daffy, because she's the one who has always stood out as not having much snap.

Anyway, since the attacks, i've noticed that whenever the girls settled down to rest somewhere - Daffy tucks her head down and places herself under one of her sisters. And her sisters don't seem to mind. They let her stay like that for a 30 seconds or so, and then they decide they'd like to lie down too, and they find a new position.

Do anyone else's chickens do this?

I have 2 that do this, one is at the bottom of the pecking order and very timid. The other was one of 2 girls together and I lost the dominant one to illness so I don't know if she will do this with any others.
