Lulu and I have conversations all the time. And she gives me heck if I am busy and ignore her. She also tells me to dig faster when she helps me with the weeding (I weed, she eats the bugs and worms)
I dont even know where to start! I'm glad all yall are crazy too! While reading all the posts, I havent laughed this hard in a while!
My mom came down to visit this week and she had a life changing experience. She was woken up by my two roosters crowing (at least trying to crow) in the house! I have some huge parrot cages and they stay in there occasionally. I also showed her how I have the conversations with my roo.... I think she was close to dis-owning me, embarrassed, in shock, or all 3! He would get shy in front of my mom and act like he was about to say something but end up just open mouth breathing and moving his tongue. Leaving me looking crazy cause I was the only one ba-gawking! He even gave me the crazy eyes one time and cocked his head too, brat!
I wish my babies knew their names, but I usually end up calling everyone 'Crazies' so that doesnt help!
I know what a couple of mine say... "Don't come near me crazy chicken diapering lady!", "Where's my food woman!?", "What are these things!!!??? (dogs) Make them stop nibbling on me!!!", and probably the most popular "Can't you see i'm trying to sleep?? (with one eye open) Don't come back unless you have some treats" -milk covered bread
I talk to them all the time. My DH thinks it is a little silly that I actually ask them questions. They talk to me, especially if I have something in my hand at treat time. There is something relaxing about the cooing, light bawking they do when I pick them up or they climb up into my lap.

Mine mostly seem to complain. "Let me out of here." "Isn't there anything to eat besides these pellets?" "What do you mean I can't eat the flowers?" "Put me down!"
I chat with my feathered girls all the time...makes my heart sing! I would be so embarrased if someone caught me having a conversation with them though!

I know what you mean. I was talking up a storm to Lulu and didn't notice the neighbour standing on a ladder pruning his fruit trees looking at me strangley.
I laughed and said "Hi, I'm only talking to Lulu (he couldn't see her and I thought it would be worse if he thought I was talking to myself.)

I have four talkative gals - plus the rooster who has a lot to say to me. I do talk to them and occasionally try to say something to them in chicken, but I must be really bad at it.
The reply is usually "Birk?"
I say something again, just to clarify
Betsy tilts her head and replies, "Bok bik bok bok birk. Birk birk?"
Ladyhawk (Easter Egger) was trying to tell me something today...within an hour she jumped up on my lap in the run four times. She was jabbering and needed to be close...rubbed her face on my chest. I think she had been picked on and needed a lil 'Mama Love'.
Oh my gosh! I am so glad you posted this, I just thought I was a weirdo!
I had a bantam cochin rooster once who had this nasty little scream for a crow, so when I got another rooster, I decided to teach him myself.
He is an OEG bantam, and when he was just starting to squeak, I would crow at him. He has a pretty good soundin crow now, and I always say I trained him myself.
A few days ago, I was sitting in the coop when one of the hens jumped in the nest box to lay an egg. He wasn't doing the regular bock bock BUCKOCK! thing like usual, because I was there, so I decided to start it. I would say bock bock BUCKOCK! And he would say BUCKOCK! Right after me! It was so cute! And sometimes, when he has been attacking my leg and he crows when I leave, I just crow back until I get to the door, just to bug him. So that is weirdo me and my confused little chickens.
Mine sing. Likely because they grew up in the brooder listening to opera and Broadway albums! Phantom of the Opera was a huge hit, Sweeney Todd, not so much.
We have the laying an egg song: Buwaaaa---uak! Buwaaaa---uak, bwack, bwaaack!
We have the happy to be alive song: (I cannot begin to write it up, imagine the Charge of the Light Brigade and it'd be close enough)
We even have the "Come feed me, lady": BWACK-ACK-ACK! (usually accompanied by Scarlett tapping on the bedroom window)
