Do your hens cackle to announce eggs?

Quote:
my brahma wont shut up,, as soon as all the girls are up and hears me make a sound.,, in the house she start squaking until all eggs are laid or i let them out to eat the grass,,, so annoying,, they are about 30 feet from my bedroom window,,,, ugh,,, but i love those fresh eggs,,,

My RIRs are quiet, don't call out or anything when laying. My Blue Andalusian/RIR cross hens though like to "Book-OOK" whenever they lay. They lay some huge eggs though, so I guess they have a reason.

I can always tell when there's a new egg with them.

I can never tell if they "announce" the eggs-I hear them squaking and carrying on and i tell my kids, hey they're announcing an egg, go and get it. So my kids go and check and there's nothing. So this has happened so many times with NOTHING that they don't bother checking anymore and when there's commotion. "fool me once..."

So far I have two hens laying... my Banty Cochin is very loud but my RIR is silent..... you don;t even know she's laid an egg until you see her peeking under herself to see what just dropped out.... LMAO

I have this EE that makes the most gawd awful noises like her neck is being rung and she does it for a few of the others too when they lay, ocassioanly they all do the "victory lay" chant, hens and roosters all together, but it varys from day to day, they all get noisy on and off and some days stay quiet. If you could hear the EE thou, its like nothing I have ever heard, I shoo her and tell her to quit being a drama queen. She is also the only one that gets in the box lays down and starts scratching the ground and spinning in circles hard!

My OEGB was silent. I found her 2 eggs in the nestbox by accident. I think she was going off somewhere else to lay.

My dark cornish sounds just like a goose honking just after she lays an egg! DH was home and I thought he was going to K-I-L-L me when he heard her!

He was convinced I had a goose hidden out in the backyard!

You should have seen him sneaking up to the window to try and see it!

Now, we're used to the honking. When she wants out in the morning is when she is the loudest.
