Here's my boy Griffon - afternoon nap

. One of our hounds (Elyna) napping, too. Tough life.... He's pretty much a couch potato now as he's a carrier for VonWilldebrands (found out the hard way - had him neutered at about a yr. & the poor guys scrotum swelled up to grapefruit size) & I didn't want to risk anything happening with agility etc. Thought about having him tested before but the breeder said 'no problem' & 'tests were fine'. Well....... He's my baby anyway & such a lovebug!!! Love seeing other peoples Dobies, too!!

Hens & Hounds :

OMG! This thread is going to make me cry!

I miss my Sasha soooooo much!

She was a large boned euro Dobe purchased from a Kimbertal breeder for $2,000. & at the age of 2 was diagnosed w/ hypothyroidism so she was on meds for the rest of her life.
sad.png
This made her be overweight also. Always had very high liver enzymes when she had her bloodwork done (which was every 6 month)

At the age of 10 her liver gave out & we had to make the decision to put her down....It had to be the hardest decision to ever have to make

So after months of mourning we decided to adopt a rescues instead of going back to the breeder. We adopted 2 Coon hounds which people think are Doberman's that are uncropped/docked.

Although 3 years has passed I still cry almost every day & would give my right arm to have my Sasha back!

She was so smart & quite the actress & knew so many commands, she understood the biggest vocabulary of any dog I have ever known.

My husband made many funny videos of her during the 10 years of her life & did voice-overs to the videos...he made her have somewhat of a manly voice as she was a very dominant dog & I refused to do voices on video

So she is kinda immortalized (if thats the right word) on Youtube under Sasha the Doberman.

I try to watch the videos, but wind up crying & being more depressed

Don't get me wrong I LOVE Buddy & Jolie (our 2 hounds) & they are absolutely GREAT w/ the chickens...we don't ever let the girls free-range w/o the dogs out as they (especially Buddy) watch the sky for hawks...but I know Sasha would have been great w/ them also she was always like a Momma to any animal smaller than her & was great w/ our caged birds.

I will subscribe to this thread & look forward to having a good cry looking at other peoples Dobe's...maybe someday we will have another one

Hens and Hounds, I feel your sorrow. I loved my 2 dobies so very much also. I wanted to share a poem with you that I've had for quite awhile. It's a beautiful poem for people that have lost their beloved pets.

I Am Not There

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn's rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there, I did not die.......

I had the honor in taking care of Bob and Anita Silman's adorable Dobermans on her farm. I remember Shadow (the rust blue) and Cleo (the black and tan) and she had some very easy going dogs. I remember her telling me to remember to say Shadow's name before entering because he is protective of the premises. Such loyal dogs! I used to be so afraid of them but Anita changed all that awful stigma about Dobermans. Not sure if they raise anymore because we left Brimfield about 1993 and lost touch with them.

They had eight champion Dobermans...I can not remember their kennel name right off bat. They had the sign out front of their driveway.

Thank you so much for that OregonChickenGal
