Doc diagnosed my hubby w/ Campylobacter infection and histoplasmosis .

Can I just say I had campylobacteria Jejunum! it rotted-At first I thought I just got sick-then the hershey squirts started-then the vomiting-I kept NOTHING down. day 3 MIL dragged me out of bed and threw me in shower-then in car to ER where I was hospitalized for 6 days until they figured out what it was. CDC got involved and everything-it was July 4th weekend bout 7 years ago-long before my chickens came. We went out to 6 places to eat and I was teh cook at the picnic-I think it was the fact that I must not have washed my hands good enough after handling raw chicken! bad bad bad--Im sorry ur DH has it-but it does get better-

I, too, had campylobactor jujunii a few years ago. I was working long hours with a tiny guinea keet who had a slipped Achilles tendon, and undoubtedly infected myself through it. I'm happy to say the Achilles tendon healed.

I've never been so sick in my life; syptoms same as sonew, but didn't have to be hospitalized. My doctor started me on Cipro until she could get test results. I don't remember what I was switched to, but Cipro was NOT the correct medication. The most serious worry is that it can lead to a very, very serioius malady that causes progressive paralysis. This also can be treated, and recovery can take a very long time, but is usually complete. Please don't treat campylobactor lightly, and get further information about the proper medication. Sonoran's Merck reference probably indicates the correct antibiotic.

I just saw this post. You may also want to read about ocular histoplasmosis. If he has ANY changes in his vision AT ALL then he needs to see an ophthalmologist immediately. Consider it an emergency. In fact, I'd consider an appointment with one now for an exam and a consultation. They can give advice on what symptoms to watch for with the vision.

I lost most of my vision in one eye as a result of ocular histoplasmosis 20 years ago. If they had caught it sooner (I was misdiagnosed) then they might have been able to reduce my vision loss. However, nothing can be done about it today as my retina is badly scarred. Laser surgery is not an option for it.

The specialists that I saw said I was very fortunate that only one eye was affected.
