Documentation of My Project Naked Necks

Lost this one the other day. So much rain and mud looked like it got stuck and died there. They were just a little too young to be out of the brooder but was loosing some anyway it was like there wasn't enought air flow. The rest are doing fine now, done little fixing up on the pen for them ans it has helped.

Will try for more pictures on Saturday.

Okay now I'm down to only two chicks from this pairing.

One Naked Neck and one fully feathered.

Here is the NN that is left: . I'm now totally lost as to which one it is. They were all feathering out about the same color. I guess it doesn't really matter now which one it was.

Here is the fully feathered one: .

I'm thinking that the NN one is a pullet (has a pea comb) and the fully feathered one is a cockerel (has a single comb. Mister Fully Feathers is getting a good sized comb on him and the legs are looking a bit thicker. Maybe in a week or two I will be a little more certain on the sex of each.
Their coloring is very similar although the NN does have a few darker feathers in the wing area.
What would you think the coloring would be called? I think some form of buff with a pattern to it. This color in person leans toward a tannish-not so reddish (but not quite orange) look.

Thanks for looking.

Thank you for the complement on the photos, but I really don't take good ones. Between wrestling with the chicken to get them to stand still and look at the camera for the shot it really incredible that I get anything at all.
Can't wait to see yours (NN/EE's) when the get here. I too get those comments on my NN's, but I usually just ignore and go on about my business.
Come about September I'm going to do a different set of NN over EE setting.

@ 3 weeks old (I think). @ 6 weeks & 2 days.

here is a shot of the wing feathers spread, There is blue coming in in the background. I think this one going to be a rooster. Big thick legs and a lot of darker red coming in. Peacomb on this one.

A shot of the wing feathers. Still unsure of the sex on this one, but thinking pullet. A little more time will tell for sure. Single comb on this one.

Wow! I've let three weeks go by and have not updated.
I'll try to rectify that by this next week-end. The two that I have left from this breeding are really growing and doing a lot of color changing.
I've finally figure out the sex of each one. The one that turned out to be Naked Neck is a pullet and the fully feathered one is a cockerel. I'll probably be keeping both and putting them back into different projects. We'll see.
I actually nearly lost both of these, they just didn't seem to be eating much at all (they are in with 4 other babies the same/around the same age), I got me some dog food and soaked it in some milk and let it get mushey and feed to them, and gave them some wormer in their water, about a week later they pepped right up and started eating better and really took off growing.

Well, thanks for listening.

As promised:

Here is the Naked Necked on a pullet. She is about 8 weeks and a few days old. Taken today.

Here is her brother. I know he isn't NN but if things go as planned I'll most likely keep him and put over some choice NN hens. I just love his coloring. Is that considered mauve color in his tail feathers?

I just started following this one! The last pic of the little roo does look like he inherited some blue from the EE genes.

The little pullet is lovely. That patch of feathers on her neck is cute and gives her a 'glamorous' look as do the slicked back feathers of her head

That is definite on the inheriting blue. His mother was by a Blue Red Splash rooster and he was by a Blue Red EE rooster and out of one of my Blue Red Splash hens. His mother was out of one of my Buff NN hens that I had at the time. I just have a habit of trying to keep up a pedigree by colors only, I don't really name my chickens.

Thanks for the compliments. Good to know someone is following.

I just can't get over her face! She is so sweet looking. I too am just starting to breed my birds. I have a Wheaten Ameraucana that I am going to be breeding to my Brahmas. I eventually want to get a NN and breed EE/NN!
