Does a chicken who has had Coryza ALWAYS carry the bacteria for ALL it’s life? Looking for some positive.

I will look into it. I live in Indiana, and out vet said that it is very pricy here. I will try to contact someone from the department of Agriculture. Perhaps they would be able to give me the info I need. I am having a little trouble navigating https://www.metzerfarms.com/PoultryLabs.cfm, but I will try to find some information about contacting a vet there. Is it free to contact and ask questions?
Yes

I have one more quick question here. How long after a bird has been treated for Coryza will they stop shedding the bacteria (temporarily)? I’m not sure if the answer is out there or not. I know that the infected birds will shed the bacteria from time to time when stressed, but will they shed it ALL the time 24/7? I’m hoping that they stop shedding it once the antibiotic kicks in (at least for a time). I could not find anything online for this chunk of info. Many thanks to everyone replying on this thread!!!

It is $130 to get a whole bird necropsy in Indiana. I am wondering if I can send In a fecal direct exam instead (which is much cheaper). If many infectious bacterias are shed through feces, I wonder if they can detect what my birds have through that. I’m young and I don’t have the money to afford a necropsy in Indiana. I am planning on looking into the surrounding states to see if the prices differentiate.

You are not alone in having trouble affording the $130. If you have to ship the body overnight that costs more. Driving the body to deliver it is quicker and less expensive. Sometimes the drugs to treat repeated outbreaks will cost more eventually than a necropsy. Ask the state poultry vet office if they can help you at least test live birds.

Unfortunately birds with Coryza will always shed it, a lot more when they’re stressed.

I just contacted my local vet and asked about specific testing for Coryza. Although I am fairly sure this is what my unfortunate sick birds have, at least I would know for certain. If they don’t have Coryza, I will find a way to get some sort of advanced test done (be it necropsy or live bird test). I will work on finding a Indiana Poultry vet and asking them about a live bird test since I am having no success with the Purdue livestock extension.

If you get testing for respiratory disease, I would also test for MG. It is more common than coryza, less severe, and symptoms can be similar. I would talk to the state vet as well about testing. They may have a person who can come and test your sick birds. Some states will do that, and it sometimes is inexpensive.
