I feel that this is a silly question..... but our Drake has been very busy with 'Miss Delyla Quack Quack' and she has been laying on a regular basis. We have been taking the eggs, to put in our DIY incubator.....Worrying that they may get too cold (????) Knowing that a female should go broody to sit on her eggs to hatch them....I am wondering if a duck has to be broody for the eggs to be fertilized? Is she just not sitting on them because they are not there? Could they not be fertilized yet and that is why she hasn't gone broody? Obviously I am new at this. Any info would be greatly appreciated!!! Thank you!!!

The duck doesn't have to be broody for the eggs to be fertile and yeah she wont go broody until you leave a pile of eggs for her. Ducks lay up to 25 eggs before sitting on them the eggs should be fine as long as the weather isn't too cold. I didn't know my girl was laying and then she vanished one day. I found her sitting on 15 eggs lol.

Not all ducks will ever go broody. Sometimes its just not in their genes. But definitely they do not have to be broody to be fertile. I have hatched out from my pekins and they all were fertile, and she has never gone broody.
