as HENS?
Don't laugh. I'm considering getting a few silkie pullets because I need a broody or two. At first I was concerned about my 13 lb. rooster mating them. Then I told myself, "what am I worrying for?" He's only even seen "normal" hens, so maybe he'll be confused by the fluffballs. Maybe he'll be afraid of them. Certainly he'll be cautious enough to not attempt mating them.
So now I find out Ideal is sold out of silkies for the week that my other chicks are being delivered, so I'm considering a couple of OEGB pullets instead. Only those I KNOW he'll recognize them as hens and will want to mate them, probably squishing them in the process.
So I'm back to wanting silkies, but will my rooster know the difference?

Yes, your rooster will "recognize" silkie hens as hens. Will he try to mate them? Maybe, maybe not. But the same can be said for the OEGBs.
