i have electric fencing all around my coops, and also chickens cannot see in dark so when they do get startled it could hurt them by not seein is what im trying to say, thats the case with my chickens, thats why i said some but no ALL need a light, i alsoo have a dimmer, so its very dim, i should have stated that earlier, its not something that lights up everything, it just makes it a little light but nothing to make them think its daylight inside the coop, hope that clears up some confusion, also my chickens do not lay at night so they are not laying "too" much!
