hi im incubating chicken eggs and they are do to hatch in one week i want to make a brooder with a top that has some kind of wire on the top but my heat lamp is a clip on does any one have any ideas thanks

This article has lots of ideas (and pictures) for brooders. http://www.backyardchickens.com/a/r...rooder-and-start-raising-your-chicks-outdoors

But I strongly advocate brooding outdoors in the run or coop as long as the run or coop are protected from the weather. The article lists all of the advatages to doing this.

If you choose an indoor brooder, a heating pad system of heating the chicks is far superior to a heat lamp and more closely replicates a broody hen. Give it some thought. https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...d-in-the-brooder-picture-heavy-update.956958/

I have my chicks in a 50 gallon rubbermaid with the lamp attached to the side when they're too young to flap out, and later just put hardware on top of it when they start jumping around. Kind like this

I use a Rubbermaid too with paper towels, for freshly hatched chicks. I leave them in my house for about a week, then move them to a bigger pen.

(We have a large greenhouse, so they have been going in there for now until our poultry Barn is finished.)
