We already have the free skype to communicate with our DD in afghanistan. We are thinking of upgrading to the skypie(??) so we can make and recieve calls on the computer from anyone.
We are wanting to cancel our landline because of all the excessive taxes and fees. Our normal phone package has been $50.00. The last few months the taxes and fees have gone up to make it over $70.00 a month!

I know that is a lot less than most people I know, but we don't use the phone hardly at all. This is a one fee plan for unlimited long-distance which is mostly me to DH at work, and some each week to near-by family.

What I want to know is if skype has any taxes or fees. I have looked at their faq's but all I can find is fees if you are in the EU. Is that true??

We don't want to cancel our phone service if we are going to be riddled with more taxes and fees that we don't know about.

Thanks

Monica

all i remember is my dh in Iraq talking about adding 10 more dollars for minutes thing...as the minutes were used up. nothing about taxes.

it was kind of broke up at times when talking to him...big delays...sandstorms knocked out communications too...or just power surges (all those air cond. and such...) knocked out.

i've heard from a handyman in the u.s. that just uses skype and likes it that way....but he wasn't talking to anyone across the ocean.

let me know how it works out for you.

i switched to my cable company for cable, phone, and net.

but when my power is down...no line for me. that means no 911 either if power is down. and i don't have a cell at this time.

my boss wants me to use for work. I refuse to.
I wasnt hired to actually "talk" to customers.
Heck they are lucky I take the occasional call they bump up to me.
