Does any one won a french bull dog ??

I am thinking about buying a french bull dog puppy in the spring
Would like to hear input on what people think about them

Sorry don't know much about the Frenchies. We bought an English Bulldog for $2000 then spent another $800 getting an eyelift for her. I can't remember how to spell the name of what she had. It's where the eyelashes point towards the eye instead of outward. It was very painful for her. Just do a lot of research before you buy/adopt. I wouldn't trade her for anything but she has cost us a lot more than we would have ever thought. Not to mention the skin/fungus issues they can have with the folds on their faces. You have to clean them quite often or they will get yeast infections in the folds. Hope this helped some.

A helpful hint for the wrinkles is desisitn (sp?) diaper rash lotin just a dab in the wrinkles will help (mom of 4 bulldogs)
edited to add it was called cherry eye that your baby had to have fixed it does happen with the bullys sometimes.
I like the frenchies but would rather have the bigger ones myself

they cant breed naturally so be prepared to spend big bucks for a pup, they are very lazy and dont like doing much so they are good if you want a calm dog. they are more for people watching than fetch lol. they are kown to have hip and alot of medical problems. there was just a show on tv about them they say they are great pets they say they are stubborn though so when training keep in mind they are moe for being pleased than pleasing you so I guess a master munipulater will be needed lol. they were #1 for years.

I noticed you are in Agawam. There are dog shows at the Big E in West Springfield nearly every month anymore. You should go and see some and talk to some breeders.

I had a good friend who raised Frenchies years ago and used to help show them. They have quite the personality. Also, they do SNORE !

Martha Stewart keeps trying to copy all the pets I own her and her daughterEnglish bulls ,Frenchies, Marans and making them a popular breed they use to be the best kept secret! LOL
I own 3 of the little darlings and they hate chickens one is a chicken killer she has 17 under her belt!
I have raised and shown English bulls for over thirty years and have now retired from the dog ring and am going to try my luck in the chicken ring or coop.
Good luck and be prepared to spend at least $2,000.00 probly more for one that is well bred.

Here's my frenchie, Luci.

She's a typical french bulldog as she is charistmatic and funny. She's a bit stubborn...will snort at you when you tell her to sit

but she's the warmest snuggle bunny in the evenings. I walk my dogs frequently with no leash. They are extremely smart and listen intently when they are unsure. My other dog is Rico..He's a frenchy-chihuahua mix.

The #1 biggest problem with the breed are the breeders. Make absolutely sure you buy from a reputable breeder. This is a very poplular dog right now and there are many people out there just trying to make a quick buck and are inbreeding and breeding dogs that shouldn't be bred.

My MIL suprised me with mine 4 Christmas' ago and I love the dog, but I wish she did her homework. Luci has a re-occuring skin condition that can only be controlled with steriod treatments and anti-fungal shampoos. She is allergic to everything...dog food, grass, dust, etc.

She is on natural balance potato and duck formula, get probiotics and yoguart in her food to combat yeast, needs shampooed every week or two to degrease and combat yeast overgrowth, needs steriods in the summer time because of environmental allergens and frequent ear treatments to combat yeast.

I believe a big part of her problem was inbreeding. I did some more research on the breeder who also kept over twenty types of small breeds

They were all caged and bred constantly. I also believe a big part of her problem is vaccinations and anitbiotics. She was the size of a hamster when I got her and they gave her the same amount of vaccines they would a full grown rotti. The vets say this is just protocol....much googling and research of my own has discovered these little, more sensitive breeds are EXTREMELY sensitive to toxins and allergies manifest because of the toxicity. She started losing her hair so the vet thought she had a parasite like mange. We dipped which further compromised her immune sytem then was perscribed antibiotics as an antifungal and to treat a mild bacterial infection. This ruined her natural bacterias. It's been two years since she's seen a vet and I've been taking a completely holistic approach. She now has all her hair, never throws up, and is almost itchy free. At least now, she can have a decent life. I was really close to putting this dog down because she was so inflamed and uncomfortable for so long..

So sorry about the long post but I want anyone that is considering buying a frenchie or other type of dog, that research is very important and delaying vaccinations til they are bigger is also a great idea.
I probably won't vaccinate ever again because my dogs don't ever go to kennels or rarely see other dogs. I learned my lesson though and have worked very hard to give Luci a wonderful life with as little medication as possible.

Yup, that's what it's called. Although they can get cherry eye quite often. Even though we paid $800 for the surgery we might have to take her back to a specialist to have a few hairs removed with a laser.
