Does anybody else have more than one flock?

I can't seperate them by more than 20 ft... We rent our house from someone, and he gave us a certian area in our yard that we are aloud to have our animals. I could just free range them at seperate times if it doesn't work having them all out at the same time. I won't be able to test it out until September, when my new chicks will be old enough to become my younger roosters flock. I am deffinitly giving him his own flock and coop though.

I do.I tried for months to inter-grate my young pullets with my older hens.after months of watching the older hens beating up on the young pullets i separated them.i have two coops and and two runs.the younger ones is still terrified of the older birds.when i let them out to free range the younger groups stays as far away from them as they can.(i have no rooster)

I still think the old roo won't let the younger roo have any hens if they're ranging together. He won't know those hens aren't his and he'll iincorporate them into his harem. In the chicken world he's dominate, therefore he gets all the girls!

Thanks for everyone's tips, tricks and info. We came up with a possible alternative. We are going to re-home our goats, because we can't afford them anymore, and we will use their pen to make another coop. Then we will just free range one flock at a time, and swap who's outside every couple of hours. I am almost always home, and I am able to do that for them. Im sad that we will have to re-home our goats, but we really can't afford them.. :(

Sorry you have to re-home your goats.

We arent positive we will re-home them. There is about a 85-90% chance that we will. It makes me sad, but we are too busy to breed them, and they are just way to expensive to have as pets.

I made a bachelor pad for one of my 3 roos about 2 weeks back. The other 2 were ganging up on him when he'd try to mate with a hen and then he was going after my broody hen and scaring her off the nest. Unfortunately one of my roos got killed yesterday along with a hen. Stupid dogs.

So, I will probably let him out but I think I'll wait until my hen is done setting. Though who knows when that will be since she keeps stealing freshly laid eggs to add to the 12 she has and then I remove them.

I'm so sorry about your chickens! I have two dogs that won't stay out of our yard. They keep coming into my yard and circling my coop. I know just who their owner is, and she let's them out to wonder while she is at work every day. I'm about ready to call animal control. I can't risk my chickens safety.

Hopefully your rooster excepts the one you have been keeping out of the flock! I tried everything to get my Rooster to except my newest rooster, and nothing has worked :( Hopefully you'll have better luck than I did!
