Does anybody ever feed caught mice to their chickens?

every chance I get....I actually just got back in the house from gathering the eggs and giving fresh water and when I lifted a bucket a family of mice were under there..the chickens went crazy pecking and eating them.....

I've never given them an adult mouse but I've fed them babies. Actually, when I was trying to start up my tractor today I had a mama mouse with 3 little babies attached to her teats come running out. One little one fell off so it became a chicken snack. I couldn't find the others.

Definitely would not feed toads to the chickens. Some have something on their skin that can be toxic. Our Toy Fox Terrier became very ill on a Sunday when our vet was closed so we had to drive 40 miles to an Animal Hospital. The only thing they could figure was she must have caught a toad. She was fine one minute and suddenly was vomitting lots of clear fluids...could have drowned from her reaction to whatever it was. She was right with us and I never saw her pick anything up so we never knew for sure...she is older now and doesn't pay much attention to anything other than tree lizards...she has never caught one...just loves the chase.

we dont have a bunch of mice down here, but we do have a whole mess of little tree lizards and skinks that i catch every chance i get and the chickens go NUTS for them!!!

The galvanized waterer inside the coop rests on a hollow concrete block. Once I lifted it up to take outside for cleaning and refill revealing a mouse nest with what seemed like a dozen just furred babies. It reminded me of the Jurassic park scene with the Raptors chasing down prey. I believe now that Chickens are descended from carnivorous dinosaurs. The worst part was the mice screaming as the chickens chased down, cornered, and ripped apart their prey.

I can't help but visualize the raptor-chicken attacking mice. I personally haven't fed a mouse to our girls...never really thought they would like something like that. but can't help but laugh at the thought, and be grossed out at the same time.

I guess if we trap a mouse in the house again, maybe we'll take it to the coop for a little amusement (and by we I mean my husband)

Oh that is disturbing on so many levels. Thanks for the visual!

My dad held up a frog for his chickens one time. He said they had it picked clean in less than a minute. I think it's cruel and just can't watch it. I don't care if someone else does it. Dang mice will mess up so much stuff, so I'd rather the chickens eat them and enjoy them!
