Does anybody garden with raised beds?

I have raised beds that are fenced in and some that aren't. I grow things that the chickens don't bother much in the ones that aren't This year I may have to fence off some more of them because I plan to put in some lettuces, and the hens would have a feast on those!

With the lasagne garden it depends a lot on what you have to start with. I'm starting out with only 2" of topsoil on top of sand. Without augmentation of some kind I can grow a few herbs but no heavy feeders. On the other hand when I was in Kentucky I could have dropped the sesame seeds of a bun and something incredible would have popped up.

As out soil is all clay and river rock, I have to use raised beds. I have two 5' x 5' and am putting in two 40' beds or combo this year.

The girls will have their own tomatoes, sprouts and grass mix to play in.

LOL.....No, but that would have been a site.

They're were several turkeys and the one deer feeding from the same deer feeder. I guess the deer didn't want to share. He turned quick and pawed the turkey with both front hoofs. Held him down and tried to get his spike horns in him. He wasn't able to gore him, but I guess the hoofs did the job.

After he turned the turkey loose, it was just flopping around. The little buck snorted and grunted a few times at the turkey and walked back to feed.

This is only my second post, so Hi! again...

I have several lasagna gardens around my yard, but not for veggies. It definitely helps to start the fall before, and keep it wet, wet, wet for the first couple weeks. The worms will be attracted to the dark wet soil under the newspaper, and will work the poor soil for you so that the underneath stuff so you can plant deeper feeders.

I dont have any chickens yet, just eggs on the way, but I was really hoping the chickens would scare off the deer from eating my veggies this summer.

My garden is both fenced and of raised beds. I have really, really crummy soil and that part of the yard will flood a couple of inches in really bad times (like this past fall). It has 18 4x 4 boxes in it right now. This is a view looking into it. My BO's don't try to get in any more. They don't like the pickets and the wire seems to be too tall. Heck, half of them need steps to get on their roost!!!

Hi Swamp,

I'm about 15 miles south of you in Canaveral Groves.

LOL....Sounds like it's time to put some of your chickens on the Richard Simons, Clucking to the oldies diet.
