Again, you'd get a better reception if you stopped stating that everyone who doesn't behave exactly the same way as you do doesn't care about their animals. Humor is a coping mechanism. The fact that people joke about things doesn't indicate a lack of respect or appreciation.

I couldn't do it. I can't even think of killing any of my birds. Not even if it's mean. I would try to rehome it even if that means the feed store. Then he has a chance to live. Guess I haven't had a mean one, so I don't exactly what I would do. I have a silkie that is attacking my Cochin roo, but I'm going to rehome him if it doesn't stop.

My home is my haven. Nothing attacks me here.

In all my years of chicken raising and countless rooster, we've only had to cull 2 for temperament. The rest we cull cause they taste like chicken.

The rehoming thing confuses me. It's a mean bird. It attacks you and/or other birds. Why give it to someone else? It will attack them and/or their birds. It doesn't fix the bird and if it's so bad you can't live with it, why would anyone else want to?

I see listings like this, where a rooster is attacking someone and they want a new home for it, but only a good home where they'll get to live for years and years and absolutely can't be used for meat. It genuinely perplexes me. I can understand not wanting to kill an animal you care for, but at the same time, there aren't a lot of homes for roosters. There are almost no homes for mean ones that don't involve a trip to a soup pot. The average flock only needs one or two males, having too many leads to fighting and problems. There just aren't many homes available to start with, much less homes that can take on a mean animal that will attack them or hurt their birds.

If you can't cull a mean bird yourself, so be it. It's not an easy decision for anyone. I can't do it myself, I raised them from chicks. My husband handles that. But be realistic about what is probably going to happen at the bird's new home. In some cases, a quick, dignified death is better. Living a life caged up or hit with sticks isn't much of a life.
