Does anybody have any experience with Zyfend as a dewormer?

I just read and article in the Backyard Poultry Magazine (Apr/May 2013) called "healthy guts...healthy birds" where it mentions Zyfend as a safe natural alternative non-synthetic water supplement that has been proven in large organic and natural layer flocks to offset worm related issues without the need to discard the eggs.
I have not researched more about this particular product but wanted to know offhand if anybody has tested it and what their opinions are.

I found this old thread and was wondering about using this to deworm (I found roundworms in their poo) since you dont have to withhold eggs.

I also read lots of places where Wazine is good but that you should and also that you dont need to withold eggs. Very mixed reports.

Anyone use Zyfend?

I know there have been some passionate debates about Zyfend on these boards.

I've not really done research on it, but I'm skeptical about the product. they say "offset worm related issues". Never says "kills worms". It's very careful wording. I think if you have confirmed parasites, go with something that will actually kill them.

I have been worming my hens for the last couple of months with Zyfend A.I have seen no worms at all in their droppings.I normally use safeguard.Which is a goat wormer.I had read about it here and decided to give Zyfend a try.I order it from Jeffers Livestock.

Bucky, do you have fecals run on your birds? Unless you have egg counts from fecals run at different times, how do you know that product is actually working? Mary

No I have never had a fecal count. I have always wormed my hens in the spring and again in the fall. I use safeguard and than use a different wormer the following year. I had read you should not worm your hens. Unless you see worms in their poop.I had ordered zyfend wormer but never used it.And decided to give it a try..I have doubts about the natural wormers.I Have a hen (Fancy is her name)that always has a poopy but. She never cleans her self. I clean her up and decided to give her a dose of safe guard. As I go about cleaning the poop board under the roost area. I seen no worms. I clean their poop board every morning. I have seen round worms in their droppings before.And I do realize their are different types of worms they can pick up.My Hens ages range from five to 2 years old.Most of them have retired from laying.

Unless you have fecal(s) run, there's no way to know what parasites might be there, or not. Your birds may be getting meds that aren't needed at all. Mary

It's not a wormer. IMO, put that money towards having a fecal test done.

Large roundworms and tapeworms are large enough to see, but cecal worms and capillary worms are very small, so you're unlikely to see those. As already suggested, a fecal test is really the way to diagnose and treat worms.
