I got some red ones from ideal they are strange colored, not really red and nowhere as large as the ones from sandhill I am almost wondering if I got bantams by accident:(

HI Everyone

I have 17 Chanteclers (23 weeks old) and no eggs yet. Some of them are starting to get redder around the face so I am hoping soon!!
They are slow maturing and usually don't start laying until 24 weeks of age from what I've read.
Mine are very friendly and follow me around were ever I go... mostly for treats mind you

They come when called too! ( once again they are expecting treats

Anyhoo I will keep you posted and let you know when my girls lay. It better be soon as my DH has been threatening them with the BBQ

Good to read that someone else is awaiting their first eggs from their Chants! Mine are 21.5 weeks and are getting redder in the face, but no interest in the nest box at all. Hopefully in the next 2-3 weeks, we'll see an egg!

Mine are very friendly with my husband, myself, and the dog. Mind you, we hatched them and they have been around us since hatching....and the dog was watching them hatch even. They are a bit shy of strangers.......and if our friend's children visit they are skittish with them. But we don't have kids so they don't see kids on a regular basis. I believe that they are most comfortable with whatever/whoever is part of their daily routine.

They all come running when called and follow us around.

Hi! My Chantecler starting laying at 24 weeks, very shortly after her comb and wattles turned red. She's been a pretty regular layer since then, nearly one a day - until she got broody. Broke her from that and now she's back to her old routine.

I wonder if your hens would start laying despite the winter coming on if you kept a light on in the coop to extend the day to 14 hours.

Bummer....

I am on 26.5 weeks and my partridge Chantecler from Ideal that still isn't laying. I keep looking at her face, hoping for changes that say an egg is near at hand, but not so far.

Today, at 29 weeks 6 days, 3 of my 5 chanteclers are sitting in the nesting boxes! One of them even muscled her way in with one of the laying Catalanas. Dare I be hopeful?
