Does Anybody here Know Sign Language?

Oh yeah, I did that alot! Sometimes I get off track and the interpreter had to get us back on track LOL!

I even do that with my deaf friends, leaving hubby in the dark but he is getting savvy, getting the idea what we were talking about. No use to "hide" from him now!

Particuarly if we were talking about HIM!

Well many of us don't have an idea. Maybe you should talk to a teacher that does sign language. You better start working on your patience there...being annoyed would not be a good trait of an instructor or teacher if someone goofed up often. Patience is the key and they will get it.

It is America and you can charge whatever you want and how often you want. If the students in your area would pay five dollars an hour or half an hour, then so be your charge until you give them plenty of notice that you will increase your instruction rates up.

It seems to me like you need to learn more ASL before you decide to teach, even little kids. Taking a class, especially with a deaf teacher is very different from learning online or from books. The signs are only part of the language. ASL is an entirely visual language; mouth shape, orientation and sign direction all convey meaning. Signing something while moving your head in a "no" motion completely changes the meaning. Some signs are also very similar, with different meanings conveyed by mouth shape. Look up "mouth morphemes" to get an idea of what some of them are.

I took classes off and on for about three years, not a lot of classes, and not highly intensive. I cannot carry on a conversation with a Deaf person.

As for charging for classes. Look at what other similar language classes go for. Look at the qualifications of teachers and see how you compare. Are the Spanish classes taught by native speakers? Do they charge a group rate, or a set charge for a certain number of classes? Those are the things that will indicate how much language classes go for in your area.

Yeah, I know all the stuff about signs being only PART of the language, And i understood Mark. But, I Have to go now!
