Well, I am just getting to the point where I will have chicks to put outside. Would it be bad to have them outside during the day and inside a huge dog crate at night? Already there was an animal around the house last night and I dont even have them outside yet!
Also, their outdoor pen will be inside a big dog kennel inside a fenced yard by the back door of the house. I am going to make it as predator proof as possible during the day. I just feel better bringing them in at night.

better safe than sorry! do what you have to do to protect them from predators. especially at night, every night. there's a lot of crafty critters out there who like chicken

My chicks went out when they were about 5 weeks old and I kept bringing them back in at night for about 2 weeks just for my own peace of mind! They still seemed so small to me and would always pitched a fit when it started getting dark anyway. So for a couple of weeks I tucked them into their brooder box in the garage every night and we all slept better!

This probably belonged in "managing flock" section.

Well, thats what I plan to do. Whatever was around last night, STANK to beat heck, it permeated the entire house! It wasnt a skunk, it was musky strong animal odor.
