production reds besides me?
so far i have been he only one with them it seems. are they a bad breed to have?

I used to have some, and I have RIR's also.

They're not a bad breed at all, a co-worker bought mine and they are doing very well, with high egg yield.

I wanted to breed my RIR's and didn't want to be confussing them with my reds, that is the only reason I let my buddy talk me into selling them.

i love the fact that mine started to lay early and have such a sweet personality. they do produce alot of eggs which i am greatful for.
if i were to hatch eggs from them with my brownleg horn rooster would i still get good egg production?

Yes, they would be good laying "barnyard specials"

I think my McMurray Red Stars are pretty much a production breed? I'm not sure if that's technically so or not. At any rate one is laying and the other probably will soon where as the others don't appear ready yet (based on comb color and how the roosters act around them

)

Production Reds are great for non-stop laying and are fairly docile. However you'll find the constant laying takes a toll and after the first two years, they go downhill fast.

They'll lay right through winter without artificial light, just like my RIR's and BR's do.

wow!! i didnt know that! thats interesting...do they slow down any or is the egg yield the same?
