Does anyone else love the Opera?

I am really liking Natalie Dessay. When I first heard her I was not overwhelmed but she has really grown on me and I enjoy her very much now.

Do you know Kirsten Flagstad? She was Norwegian Singer and a Met super star in the 1930's. I always like listening to her recordings.

Domingo is at the National Opera in DC not Washington state.

I hate that PBS does not show them as often but the Met has live performances that are shown at movie theaters around the country of its shows so you should check it out.

I LOVE OPERA!!

this is why. I saw my first opera at the Metropolitan Opera in 2006. The best seats in the house for Madame Butterfly. What an experience. I was lucky enough to get to go with some clients when I was in New York on a business trip. My first trip to NY and my first opera. Needless to say, Ive been in love with both since.
I even got to go back stage and see the dressing rooms and the prep for the show. It was really cool. Of course Ive not seen anything nearly as neat since, but I still love opera thanks to that experience.

Very Cool. was that the production directed by Anthony Minghella? If so you are so lucky, I heard it was incredible.

Yes it was. It was so cool. It was the one that they simulcast throughout central park. It was awesome.

Awesome!

I thought I read some time ago that Domingo was in Washington......maybe he was there for a very short time.

Dessay and Flagstad, never heard of them but I bet I can find them on UTube LOL!

Chickenbutt, you will have to take more pics, they are awesome!

Does anyone got pic of the singers with them?????? I sure dont have any but would love to met any of those mentioned singers!

Real live opera has a different buzz than live TV.....I went to my first opera at a local college that funded the college kids from Italy and I must say, it was GOOD! They worked very hard to get somewhere and be able to travel as a student tour.

Now Pavarotti gone, my next hope to hear live is Domingo before his voice gives out or goes darker in tone.

I'm the kind of person who thought that I'd never like the opera. However, I decided to try it at the urging of my BF. I went to the Metropolitan Opera House in New York to see Madame Butterfly. WHOA! I loved it! There were subtitles, of course, along with the program. Otherwise, I would have been completely lost. Then I went to see La Boheme and the music was absolutely incredible! Soon, I'll be going to see Rigoletto too. Who woulda thunk that trying something new after being so "old" would have been so enjoyable?

I will never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever give my son a set of cd's for any musical or opera ever ever ever ever ever ever again!!! If I hear one more Phantom of the Opera or Les Mis..... tune in my truck again I will go stark raving nuts!!!

I love the opera, I love musicals,, but enough!!! I'd almost pay him to listen to rap right now! Well, maybe not rap,,, but I gave him a 20 cd set for Christmas and my changer in the truck holds 6 at a time, he knows which track on every one of those has the Phantom or Les Mis on it and skips around to them. There is music from over 30 musicals and operas on those cds and he is focused on two....

OK Opera Fans, I went and saw Aida at the Met this past weekend (well I saw it at my local movie theater Live in HD). If you guys have never seen the Met live in HD then I would strongly urge you to check it out! This production was incredible. I have a new favorite soprano, Violetta Urmana. She was stunning as Aida. Dolora Zajick and Johan Botha were wonderful as Radames and Amneris. For more info on the Met Live in HD series go to the Metropolitan Opera's site . If your movie theater does not play the HD series ask them to but until then check out the Met Player . You can sign up for a free trial and check out a bunch of performances and recordings from the Met. I do not work for the met I am just a Met fanatic and I wanted to share. Here are some photos of Met performances.

I've never been to a live performance, but it's on my list of things to do one day!

Dolores Zajick is something else! She really can sing in Aida and I think the role fits her perfectly.

I have not seen any good opera lately but keeping an eye out on the Met shows on PBS.

I am long overdue to see some opera...........
