Does anyone experience lower backpain? *UPDATE on Post #1*

Gumpsgirl: AMEN!

Please know that chiropractors are not doctors.

If there is nerve damage, the specialist for that is a neurologist. I think sometimes folks go to their g.p. and don't get relief...you really need to push your g.p. to refer you to a neurological professional when nerves are invovled.

My DH has the same issue that gumpsgirl's mom does. He now has permanent nerve damage, and has to take two Vicoden a day just to be able to be civil. It's because he waited too long to address the issue with a neurological specialist.

Thanks for all your replies!! I guess docs intimidate me. I am not one that goes to the doc for every sniffle and ache and pain. I never did get my tailbone checked out when I landed on it in my teens. Hopefully my doc can give me some answers or refer me to someone that can. I will update when I find anything new. Thanks so much!

i used to have lower back pain..when i was about 8ish... me and few cousins/brother was jumping on a trampoline.. I fell (because they were all about twice my weight. since i was young).and one of my cousins fell behind me... Knee went straight in the middle of my back..Hurt for months.. had troubles walking. couldn't bend over or move fast. no running or jumping with SERIOUSLY hurting.. after that. i could walk/run etc.. not problems. but sitting was bad. if i sat hunched over it would hurt after awhile. so would sitting straight up. had to sit kinda inbetween the two. then i started getting fat awhile back. And would hurt when i stood up straight and stuff like that. lost the weight.. No problems now

I'm not one of those people either. I have to be practically dying to go to the doctor other than my yearly well checks, but this is serious and needs attention. I've been ignoring my pain since June, but finally decided it was time for me to wake up and pay attention to what my body is telling me. I see my mom and her condition and let me tell you! That's enough to scare the heck out of anyone! You really do need to have this checked out and need to do it soon. Please do update once you go to the doctor.

*UPDATE*

I saw the doc today and she ordered an x-ray. I should find out tomorrow what the findings are. I actually have a bladder infection. I haven't shown any symptoms, so it was a shocker! She said that it could be the cause of the pain, but she wanted to do the x-rays just to make sure it wasn't something else. She also mentioned doing stretches again. She gave me another muscle relaxer, antibiotic for the infection and some painkillers, so I am not feeling too bad now. I hope the pain is just from the infection and not something more serious. I am happy to know it wasn't just my imagination or being a wuss! Thanks for all your replies!

A bladder infection! Why didn't I think of that?!?! That sure would cause you terrible back pain and it would have only gotten worse if left alone because it would have moved into your kidneys. Glad you went to the doctor and that you are on antibiotics now. Be sure to post what the x-ray findings are once you find out.

Wow, you finally got x-rays. I still can't get any. They just keep telling me it's muscular and "degenerative disc disease" so there isn't any point to an x-ray since that won't "show up."

GRRRRR

However, MY DH goes in one time with back pain and he gets IMMEDIATE x-rays. Funny how the medical profession still treats women, don't ya think?

tests tests tests. i had to insist several years ago and was found to have severe disc disease that hed to be surgically corrected. Twice before it finally grafted properly. Once aftereach baby! It sucked. Find out early so hopefully you can prevent things from going so far that surgery is the only answer! Chiro ok sometimes but do not let them manipulate your neck. it can cause a stroke in the i think it is the vertebral artery . chiro is not always as safe as they claim. and disc issues will show upon XRAY and MRI along with any nerve damage it may cause i have already been through it. Doctors who say Oh you only have DDD are minimizing it. i t can be very severe a with lots and lots of pain and neurologically can cause many issues wioth debilitation!!!! I used to get out of bed in the AM at a 90 degree angle at the waist because my spine wpould not support me . it would take at least 15 min before I could straighten up. furthermore any nerve involvement that goes on for about longer than 6 months may be irreversible. insist insist insist!!!! My doctors (HMO) minimized for 3 years and it got me rods and screws. I do not know if it may have happened anyway but maybe something more conservative could have been an option before then. i am active now with minimal pain except when i travel and have to sleep on hotel beds. i garden i shovel out the coop. Etc It just tires more and aches easier than a normal spine.
