Does anyone have a male calico cat

I have a friend that has a male Tortoise shell. I had a calico once... don't know what happened to her.

dawnB... my cat just had kittens 2 of them are calico and yes one of them is clearly is a male idk how to uploadfrom this sight

My vet told me she had confirmed a male calico, but they are extremely rare. He's the only one she has seen, though we had an article in the paper about another one.

A lot of time male calico cats have funky sex chromosomes. Calico cats are chimeric individuals and this condition is often X-linked. I don't remember a lot of the specifics, but yes male calicos are possible, just very very rare. Due to their funky genetics, I would think most of them would be sterile.

If memory serves, and it may not, most male calicos are XXY and are sterile. I don't think most calicos are chimeras, but some may be.

I think I was mixing up chimera and mosaics. I found a good website to explain though! Cats are unique because you can visibly see the results of X-chromosome inactivation, whereas in other mammals you generally cannot. I'm pretty sure you are correct about the XXY males, if I'm remembering my genetics correctly!
