Does anyone have a non-chemical means of killing gape worm?

All the information I am reading on the web is that products designed for killing gape worm should not be used on layers or meat birds. Could I use a ball of cheese rolled in DE? Does anyone know how to kill them without chemicals that will leave a residue in eggs.

I have heard of using cayenne. "Enough to noticably change the color of the feed" if I remember correctly. And it is one of the ingredients in the product Cuban Longtails provided a link for.

Gapeworms are located in the trachea(windpipe) not in the throat..In order to kill gapeworms they have to be physically removed by taking a stripped feather dipped in kerosene and swabbing the windpipe..Or through the bloodstream by using Ivomec or levamisole..Are you sure i'ts gapeworms? chickens rarely get gapeworms

I had a hen with Gape worm and I tried everything. She had it for more than six months. I gave her drops of Ivermec and them sryinges full, enough for a few sheep, I gave her horse wormer, again, first a little and when I saw no change I gave her more, enough for a small horse. She just lost weight and faithfully followed me out to the garden to eat worms. It was the only thing she wantwed to eat. I guess she needed the protein. I tried to feed her with a syringe with vitamins to help get weight back on but I ended up causing herr to choke and she died. She gasped all the time. It was so hard. I don't think that I could have "culled" her but I understand why people do. All I could think of was the worns were using her as a host and now they would be depositing their eggs into the soil for my other chickens to eat. I haven't had any others get it. It was awful.

Sorry to hear that BCBirder.

She shoke her head very rapidly as if to shake something off and then put her head back and opened her mouth wide. She also has a little sniffle sneeze. I read the symptoms of gape worm and this sounds like it, although I was very surprised since they don't free range much. I have fed them worms and a slug that I found in my veggie garden, but not many. I put some of the dropping in water to make manure tea but did'nt notice any worms.

I am pretty sure it was gapeworm. I never saw any worms but her actions looked like it. She was always opening her mouth wide to get a breath. I had other hens in her pen with her and none got it. So I do think it is rare. I actually think that I managed to kill the gapeworm but she was so underweight that she would spent the rest of her life recovering. She was soooooo thin.
