Does anyone have any *GOOD* experiences with Dixie Rainbows??!!!

Ok so is a pioneer that same as a dixie?
I'm looking for a hatchery that carries dishes anyone know of a good one?

Yes, Pioneer and Dixie Rainbow are the same bird, kind of, sort of. Each hatchery will have their own "recipe" for coming up with them. I raised a dozen a few years ago, was pleased with their performance. I held one back as a layer/breeder. She was a great layer, the first and most productive of the pullets raised that season. Unfortunately, she and most of her daughters have succumbed to egg laying issues. I have one pullet left that carries her genes. I would not hesitate to put Pioneers back into my flock again. That Pioneer and her egg issues may have been an isolated glitch. The genetics were such that the chicks could be gender id by the willow leg color of female vs. yellow leg color of male. Females were light red, and the males were yellow/reddish barred pattern. This carried forward x 2 generations when female crossed with my avatar EE roo. The males remained huge (though not as big as first generation) while the females got smaller with each successive generation.

Interesting, so how do you breed so they keep there size? There's a place I've been looking at to buy chicks but the buy is really difficult to work with. So I'm looking elswhere. I intend on using them as a duel purpose.
