Does anyone have any idea what our "mystery hen" is?

I should add that the farm we bought our first 7 from raises chickens to show. Our first 7 came from their lot of hens that were deemed "not suitable to show." There were about 75 or more chickens in a tiny livestock trailer and we are pretty sure they had not even been on the grass before. It was actually pretty sad. :( We were told that they were all between 6 months to a year old, but we aren't too sure how accurate that is for all 7 that we took home. We've always thought that one of our hens, Honey, was definitely much, much older and she passed away not long after I joined BYC. I'm sure there were some mixes in there! We are happy to give them all a spoiled life now. :) Mimi was pretty small when we took her home and she is still a small bird, but has grown quite a bit already. As she's grown, we've been trying to decipher what she actually is. I appreciate everyone's insight!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but your hen is not an Araucana. If she has a beard, she is 100% an Easter Egger. Araucanas do not have a beard in any way. Araucanas are rumpless and tufted. You can get rumped and tuftless Araucanas, because the tufted gene is lethal when a chick inherits two copies and the genes that cause the loss of the tail can cause problems, but not a bearded one. Check out the photos on the Araucana Assn's website to see what I mean. http://www.araucana.net/

Did you buy your bird from a breeder, or a feed store or hatchery? She's not a splash Ameraucana (which technically are EEs, but that's a more gray area to me) either, since her legs are not slate colored.

Mimi does look very similar! But with the dark gray legs. Your hen is a pretty little thing! :)
