does anyone have any tips on how to build an outdoor pond?????????????

This is our pond. Alot of work but is worth it. We bought a filter that is bigger than we needed but I like to have clear water. Plant's are not blooming yet but it's very pretty in the summer.

Ditto on the water hyacinths, had over 250 last year in my grow out ponds filter last year. Works beautifully. You can feed the extras to the koi.

Barley also comes in a concentrate, a little pricey but quick and effective.

nice pond pics. I'd love to show you mine but it's froze with a nice snow cap maybe 11" or so fun fun is it spring yet?

Icw has ask me to post some infor. on my indoor mini 450 gallon goldfish pond .

So here it goes This is how I build my 450 gal. indoor pond , It was FRAM out of 2x12’s , It is 5’ long by 4’width by 3’ deep (which I made a mistake in my early posting it’s not 300 gallons it 450 gallon ) The other one I build was 300 gallon which was for my son friend parents .

To Start out I added a 5 sided hex sun room to one of my rooms in our apartment house and cut the wall out to this new addition ,
Here are some pic’s

Now the fram work , the floor is a raise floor so half the pond is down below the top main floor where I can walk around the mini pond .
The front wall of the pond has a cut out for a window . The window is 12” high by 36” long -the total wall length is 48” long . What I use was 3/8” thick plex glass cut at 18” high by 47 ½” long

The top half of the pond sits about 18” up off the main floor and 18” below the main floor .

Now I use 2 x 12’s / 2x 10’s / 2x8’s laying down and brace them upright w/ studs to the out side ........But if I was to do it over I would fram the whole thing with 2x4’s now plus it would be a lot stronger ,So Ur better off doing it with 2x4 studs for the fram work.
After it is all fram out insulate in-between the studs and bottom floor , then ply wooded the inside and out side of the pond fram .Make sure there are no screws or nails sticking out . Now cover the inside walls with the pink ½” insulation sheets Home depot or Lowes sell it , and glue it with spray glue to the inside walls of the whole pond and also the plywood floor or the pond .

Now your ready for the rubber pond liner , cover the whole thing inside you’ll have to fold the corners inward tight as possible .............like making hospitable bed corner on a sheet for a bed but only backwards . Now make sure ur’ liner is big enough to go over the tops and back down the outsides of all the walls . I use a stapler with 9/16” staples BUT ONLY STAPLE THE RUBBER LINER ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE POND WALLS ----
NOT THE INSIDE POND WALLS

Now PAY CLOSE ATTATION TO THIS PART - ONE MISTAKE AND YOU’LL NEED A NEW LINER for the front window you will have to cut An X in the rubber FROM CORNER TO CORNER BUT NOT TO CLOSE TO THE CORNERS get what I mean it will look something like this when ur done and then fold the liner outwards to the front of the outside window an staple it again to the outside , it should look like this but try to do it a little better that I did LOL the 2nd pond came out better which I took pic.s of that one .

I'll finish up 2morrow it's getting late I do have more pictures on Photobucket, but I'll have to ask my Daugther or Son how I can let others look at my Albums

This should get you started on Ideas on ur' new indoor mini pond

also my outdoor 6000 gal. pond was dug out my me only with a shovel in a L Shape it was 25 ft long by 8 feet width and went from one end 30" to 4.5 ft deep to 6.5 ft deep at the end of the L which was also 8' width by about 12ft long the filter pit was over a 1000 gallon in it self so all in all totaling 7000 gallons of water .
I have Koi that where over 3 ft long and also have some koi that where 6" long and all sizes in-between I had about 40 Koi at one time in that pond .

good luck and again check out Koiphen.com that are a few other site I belong to also I get you the web-site , but before you build this or anyother pond do ur' research , ask tons of question and set a plan , then get into it .

I'll post more
