does anyone have experience with toulouse geese?

This might help https://www.bing.com/videos/search?...F78A29208AB09450D825F78A29208AB0&&FORM=VRDGAR

I don't know why my reply just got wiped out but I will say please post pics of your geese they sound really sweet. Usually geese begin to lay the spring the year after they hatch. Around 9 months. My Toulouse female was 9months old. But I have read Chinese will lay fall of the year they hatch. I'd say your Squeak is an exception but what a nice surprise. Do you eat the eggs? they sure make a nice omelet.

That was a cute video. However my female, Squeak, does all those items.

Pip does however does have a thick neck and the under carriage does seem to hang low. I will try and get a few pictures this week and post.

I have had my geese 4 years now and they have been very self sufficient. They stay on a one acre pond and about 3 acres pasture most of the time except to come to the house for feed once a day.........they answer to "hey gooses"! The ganders have a more long neck and the goose has a pronounced under belly. and gender specific personalities.

Production Toulouse is a term sometimes given to any domestic grey goose of unknown breeding that has a standard goose body type unlike dewlap Toulouse/ exhibition Toulouse which have obvious differences in appearance, so it can be hard to say what to expect as not every breeder breeds for the same physical or personality traits and it’s hard to truly say that a Toulouse is a Toulouse.

My production Toulouse came from Metzer Farms, specifically they’re their French Toulouse stock which was sourced in Toulouse France. But just because they came from Toulouse doesn’t make them “pure bred.” My oldest is 10 years going on 11, the average age of any typical goose is around 15 to 20 years but that’s not a guarantee. My ganders are around 3 ft tall, that’s a really rough guess though, I don’t measure them.

The average weight of my Toulouse ganders is around 20 pounds, females weigh a little less. My Toulouse aren’t as calm and mild as my buffs but not overly so, they can fly a few feet in the air but can’t sustain it for long after the age of a year and a half to two years when they’ve reached true adult weight and bone/muscle development. That may not be true for everyone’s but that’s the norm for mine.

The best way to ensure they have a good temperament towards you is to spend time with them, as much time as a family dog. They’ll se you as a member of their family. If all the interaction you have with your geese is when you bring them food they’ll only see you as a person who brings food, not as a trusted family member.

I really wish the Birdflu lockdown here in the UK would end - I really miss going on long walks with my two.
