I would like to buy 1 leg band and can't find them anywheres here!! The reason I only need one is I have a litlle roo guy (we'll 3 actually) and I only want to keep him when the time comes. Of course out of all 7 breeds I bought this time all 3 roos are the same breed!! He's had a horrible time with his fellow brooder mates on 2 different occasions and everytime he acts like nothings happened to him!! I feel like he's a fighter and he'll just have to stay!!

So if you have one I can buy I'll send the money and a SASE.. I'd reallt appreciate it!

Thanks,
Missi

Plastic zip ties work fine, and there are hundreds of uses for them around the home and coop. Just put it on his ankle loosely and make sure it doesn't get too tight as he grows.

ETA, any hardware store will have them, they might be labeled cable ties.

Works great.

Just did it and it worked like a charm.. but.. (you know there's always one in there) Now do I have to worry about the other ones pecking his leg?? I've only seen one so it and I think it was only because he was pecking it (cause he's surly not happy with me) right now??

Thanks,
Missi

ETA: I put one of the clear ones thinking that it was make it less noticeable for the others!!

I was just gonna reply recommending that you not use a red one but I see that you went with a clear one. Be sure and trim the loose end close to the lock...will keep one of the other chicks from grabbing the end and cinching it up too tight. Keep an eye on it and be sure it doesn't get to tight as the chick grows.

Best wishes,
Ed

NO...red would not be better because there is a school of thought that red makes birds peck more because they equate the color with blood and a weakness in the flock...that's why brooders come with red bulbs, so they won't notice anything red on anything else since everything is then red under a red light. I'd use any color but red! Maybe try to match the color to his leg, if possible...fish can also react strongly to red, it is thought to trigger them to strike, which is why they sell red fish hooks.
