Does anyone have pics of Martha Stewart's coop?

I am not defending her, but if I remember her story right, her husband left her high and dry with NOTHING and she scratched a living out for herself with her food and stuff . . .I think its great when someone does it out of nothing. We can't say that she isn't talented. Of course she has help; people kill to work for people like that. Look at Trump and his Apprentice programs!!!

I know I know, Martha went to prison for inside trading. Well, I am here to say, this goes on ALL the time, and she just got caught and the fact that she was a woman and was caught might have something to do with her going to prison, who knows . . .money and power can have strange effects on people. Wish I had the chance to find out what it would do to me!!

She owns one home 10 minutes from me & another 2 hours south. She's not the one that actually takes care of the animals & the gardens. She doesn't even visit the one house. Most everything is contracted out. Except the illegal immigrants that take care of the property in White Plains. Don't believe everything you see on TV.

But, you know I use to be a real Oprah fan, loved her, but then one day it just HIT me that if I had money like THAT, I could spout that being positive and happy and into myself would bring happiness too. . .having money might not buy happiness, but it can rent it for a long time, and I don't care how BAD a person has it when they hit it rich, they may never forget how it was, but its dimmed . . .you know what I mean. It irks me to hear these happy promotional people tell you not to worry, it will all work out, when you don't know where your next meal may be coming from or how are you going to pay the light bill AND have gas money too.

There isn't one coop, there are actually four. They're very nice, slate roofs, enclosed runs for each, surrounded with a larger fence and, of course, flowers, sweet peas climbing the fence....I went there with my Herb Society buddies two years ago. When we were there they were putting in underground plumbing so each coop would have fresh water, so it was all dug up, only one coop had birds, turkey poults, no chickens. I'll see if I can dig up a photo or two.....

I know people love to hate her, I actually enjoy her show and don't mind her a bit. I think it's great what she's achieved basically by her own determination. As for her help, when I was there she had 63 members on her staff, and I have to say, they all looked like they thoroughly enjoyed working there. There were plenty of people who looked hispanic and didn't speak English, but there were also plenty of regular Americans living there.

As for her being sent to prison, that had more to do with the ill-will towards her (and her arrogance) than her actual crime - plus she's a woman. She didn't harm anyone but herself. How many of those idiots from Enron, whose antics ruined the lives of many, ended up in jail (besides the one who had the good sense to die?) Sorry, she did wrong, she paid, and she's back at her own business, I think it's great.

Her home in Katona is surprising, at least it was to me, very orderly, utilitarian, even, her gardens are interesting, the veggie garden fence is to die for - the stone barn is magnificent, as are the horses inside it - it was a neat trip.

No...she had a successful modeling career when younger...then had a successful career as a stockbroker...then she bought her first farm and retired for a while...then started a successful catering career...which led to book deals...which led to the Martha we know today. She clearly has the golden touch.

She & her husband didn't divorce until the early 1990's...long after she had started to accumulate her wealth.

You may be thinking of Paula Deen..."her husband left her high and dry with NOTHING and she scratched a living out for herself with her food and stuff ", sounds like Paula's story.

I didn't mean to sound begrudging or jack you post. She did at one point give jobs to good citizens. A few years back, they passed a law in NY. In those counties where the higher paying jobs are. You have to pay illegal immigrants $10 an hour plus feed them lunch. The law was passed because there were contractors that would hire illegals cheap(instead of citizens) and were stiffing the Illegal immigrants on there pay.(Mind you there Illegals with out working papers). So now the wealthier people just hire the Illegal immigrants and cut out the middle man. Because they can do it legally now......PS. I think minimum wage is like $7.50 for any citizen.

Ha, my first (and main) reaction on seeing those photos is "what kind of nitwit uses diamond-mesh horse fencing for CHICKENS?" (Considering the very considerable cost, and aggravation of installing on anything but laser-flat ground). It's pointless, and for something with small body parts like chickens, normal square mesh would probably be safer anyhow.

Not a big admirer of conspicuous consumption, but granting at least that it's cool she HAS chickens in one way or another,

You know, she may annoy me personally, but I am impressed with her work. Of course, I could do the same things if I had that kind of money, it'd be nice if she had a "Living on a budget" magazine...
