Does anyone know any more on this story about teacher sacked

Expletives are not illegal. I don't care if someone chooses to use them in public. It's reasonable to expect a person to temper certain language in a classroom full of minor children, but beyond that? It's no-one's business what words someone uses, so long as they aren't showing hate/discrimination toward people based on race, gender, orientation, etc. (These types of things could really affect a person's ability to teach/work appropriately.) There are reasonable standards for professionalism on the job, but my home-time & social time should not be put under a magnifying glass.

I found a follow up story on her, it struck me as just absurd! This article does point out one thing that the districts use to get us every time. She resigned rather than be fired so she is not allowed or owed due process. If she had let them fire her and fought back she could have had her day in court, but if she lost she lost her credibility, that is why the choice is given to resign or be fired, they know most would rather resign and go hide with your tail between your legs and move on.

Not to tell anyone else to do, but everyone who plays those games such as Cafe World, Farmville, etc., you DO realize that everytime you click on that little "allow" button to join one of those games or applications (Hugs, Pillowfight, ANY of them), you are "allowing" the staff of Facebook access to your computer... you realize that, right?

This is common knowledge, and I do not know why ANYONE still uses those Facebook apps, unless they just aren't concerned about who reads the information on their computer.

If you don't mind the staff at Facebook having access to your computer, feel free to continue to Farmville yourself into the next decade. If you value your privacy or have anything personal, private, or sensitive financial or identifying information of ANY kind stored ANYWHERE on your home PC, you really ought to avoid those games unless you're cool with strangers accessing your info.

Just something to think about.

There's not enough money on the planet to get me to engage in a Facebook application.

ETA: Sorry to have changed the subject. I now return you to your regularly scheduled thread about the teacher who was wrongfully bullied into resigning.

I think it is interesting the the expletive was in a title. I also wonder if the second use of the expletive was really on the website. If the teacher had been referencing the movie Jackass, or Inglorious Basterds would that count as swearing or using inappropriate language? If she was discussing dog breeding when using the word in the game title would that have been grounds for firing?

As far as I know, swearing, smoking and drinking are all legal. Do we want our kids to do them? No, but that's why they are called "adult beverages".

Witch hunts? Oh yeah. The Elem school here ... or maybe it's district I donno... for Halloween... no ghosts, no goblins, no devils, not skellies no witches ... not so much as a witches HAT... if the triangle on the goodie bag is black you'll get snarked at... really? So, what exactly is left then? Pumpkins and Corn and Dead Leaves... okay, that's fall stuff... then why are you still calling it Halloween... seriously, is there any way to remove all religion from Halloween and still call it Halloween? That's like pulling candy canes and manger scenes but still calling it Christmas.

And, if the kids are anything at all like me... them banning something is just going to make them google it the minute they're home wanting to know why... so your hope of not exposing them to anything 'scary' or UnPC or whatever just went down the drain. What a mess.

Some people just have too much time on their hands with nothing better to do but nit pick on what someone else might be doing or not doing. "I Think" someone was mad at her and stirred up some trouble for the young Teacher. (NOT that the School or Authorities had a reasonable cause to do so, in my opinion.) I think Teachers Deserve A Lot of Credit, they put up with a lot of crap(some more than others) from the kids/students. "It Takes A LOT of Patience"... ~ I Would Need The WHOLE Bottle of WINE not a glass!!~

Do you have a link to this. As far as my knowledge runs, it is basically impossible to 'access someone's computer' without direct hacking. I can see them using the information off the facebook in and of itself to target advertise... but actually access your computer? Sounds like a 'my computer got hacked!!!!' email you get when someone just figured out their badly-done password. It's not hacking a computer or going into someone's computer when that happens.
