Does anyone know how Blue and Black works in ducks?

I wish Holderreads would show pictures of their blue east indies. There is virtually no pictures of them online. However they say they have them, so I wanna see pics darn it!

Like what colors?

On the call duck page some of the names look confusing. I used to live about 5 mins from Jen Maskell of the British Call Duck Club & spent a good deal of time at her house. She was developing lots colours (she's got my FM Lancaster book on duck genetics). As I remember it lots of the drakes look very similar; the ducks on Feathersite look like familiar colours but with different names. Like pastel? It says 'mallard' is called 'grey' in US but on the runner page they call 'trout', (which is mallard with light phase) grey too.

Surprise to me....I see Rupert's picture of my UK fawn runner is on there.

I haven't read all the posts, but I did see someone referred to the drake as 'self' blue. He is definitely not. Self blue is also known as lavender, the drake is just plain old blue

I was thinking he was too dark to be self blue myself but I barely know much about those colors. All I know is I think blue is beautiful

. Now, the hen, shelley, what do you think of her? Her flight feathers are a much lighter blue than the drakes... y et her body is a brown with mallard markings.

One thing I've always liked about names given for colors from UK is the names make more sense to me

LOL. LIke, "grey" as you mention... wouldnt it make more sense to call it MALLARD? as that's what the wild color IS of the original bird that produced most of all the ducks you see today except for scovies

In the runner ducks on the feather site The Blue in the UK looks like the US Saxony and I think it is the same as the Pastal Call.

I think that must be a mistake. A blue in UK looks like a blue as in blue Swedish. That could be a saxony male, to me some of the male colours look very similar. I'm guessing that 'pastel' must be what I know as 'apricot'.

I look forward to people posting pics of a blue East Indies, this is the first I've heard of them (I haven't been in waterfowl for a good 5 years).

Are they call ducks? I honestly don't know what a 'chocolate' call duck is supposed to look like.
Let me read some more of this thread, and I'll see what else I can help with

We like to make things difficult

I'm thinking the reason the grey calls are not called mallard is because of the mallard ducks. It would be too confusing!
I'm thinking that the adult duck is probably a mix of something, and yes her wings do look blue as well.
