Does anyone know if a pekin & a crested duck can survive in the wild?

You need a group to help. that way you have a human fence and someone gets behind and slowly walks them to large dog crate for easy transport. Kayak in the water to bring them to shore. They need to be rescued before they become gator bait. I wish i was there to help, my son and I rescued 3 drakes from our river I befriended them for about a week using scratch grains on the shore to lure them in then i set up a dog Xpen with opening facing the water put the feed at the back of the pen once they walked in to eat i closed up the opening and picked them up and brought them home. It can be done with planning and help.

This is a great suggestion but I fear that it cant be done that way with these two. They wont leave the water. The more people that come close to feed them the further into the middle of the water they go. They are very scared and completely un-trusting. We fed them everyday last week. We brought our koi food over because they wouldnt get near the bank for the scratch. I will bring my kayak down there and help Brachsideducks get them (I dont have room to keep them myself, my limit is four and I want a chocolate and a white scovie) They might have to be netted if I cant "direct them" to the shore in the kayak. We havent been there in three days. I will go by today and see if they are there still. I called animal control so they might have come by and got them.

One of those large fishing nest with long handle may work, I bought one a Dicks Sporting goods for under 10.00. I hope some how ya'll can rescue them. They must have not had a very good place before to be so afraid of humans. Keep us updated, oh and if animal control gets them then what happens?

Thanks and thanks about the avatar compliment. I have a good fishing net that I bought for catching Jeffery (my injured duck) . I discovered that adding one of those fine mesh laundry bags helps because they cant get their head and feet caught. With most of the animals, (healthy non -aggressive) they are adopted out or brought to the appropriate rehab facility. Due to Fl law muscovies will be put down. Which is how I ended up keeping Jeffery. Honestly I am not sure about other ducks, but I doubt they will be put down. It is more likely that they will be given to someone that takes all ducks in the area. Since animal control hasnt gotten them, I am wondering if they will. They are pretty fast to respond when called.

With most of the animals, (healthy non -aggressive) they are adopted out or brought to the appropriate rehab facility. Due to Fl law muscovies will be put down. Which is how I ended up keeping Jeffery. Honestly I am not sure about other ducks, but I doubt they will be put down. It is more likely that they will be given to someone that takes all ducks in the area. Since animal control hasnt gotten them, I am wondering if they will. They are pretty fast to respond when called.

You left out people who do not clip or pinion Muscovies (and mallards) and then they fly off. It is wrong to believe that they are all dumped....it is equally irresponsible to assure they can not fly off.

I'm sorry Clint I sure did, believe me mine cannot fly away I do not want to add to the feral population around here. plus I'd be heartbroken if I lost one.

I think the reference is toward the two ducks in the feed do have their wings clipped and were dumped. But your point is a good one. I will tell you that it was a moment of truth for my injured muscovy! I clipped them but read that it doesnt matter if they are clipped because scovies can still fly. When we took them outside to forage he tried once to fly but couldnt get high enough to go over my privacy fence.

Oh yes they can still fly but not enough to go anywhere. mine will go to the top of the hill behind our house and make a crash landing at the bottom. I hate when he does that but doesn't seem to bother him in the least. Clipping just one wing keeps them off balance.

Any updates on these guys? Why do they put Muscovies down? (newbie duck person here.)
