I have been trying to get eggs from my single golden who is in a pen with 3 pharaoh hen and 3 pharaoh males. She just dropped an egg in my hand as I was visiting the pen. I got really lucky. It was 3:40 pm or so. I know chicken hens lay on a 25 hour schedule. Id like to know what that schedule is for a coturnix hen. Im hoping to catch Goldie laying again tomorrow but I need to know how many hours between egg laying so I know when I might look for her laying again. Boy was I wrong about how her eggs looked. but now I have one for sure and can look for more just like them.

Apparently Quail lay eggs early and often. They begin laying while barely little more than chicks themselves, and can lay up to 300 eggs annually. Since light is a big factor for chickens, I would imagine day light hours play a role in quail reproduction as well.

I have no experience with quail I'm afraid, but most poultry lay everyday , so you might get another egg tomorrow around the same time or a bit later, or she might skip that day because of being too late and wait until the next morning to start laying early again, and from then you can expect and egg a day from her in the mornings for a few days.... So yeah I guess it's comparable to chickens...
Hope some more experienced folks come over, and we need pics! Hopefully you can hatch some babies from them! And I guess that 3 males Afro four females is too much, that will cause fighting, overbreeding which I turn stresses the females that might stop laying.

From what I've read quail can lay up to four eggs a day although the most I've ever had from one female in a day was 3 and certainly not very often. At the moment I'm only getting two eggs from 3 females. Suspect the older female of the 3 may not be laying. They seem to be laying late afternoon at the moment. Don't really have any answer for you, but hopefully someone else will. Certainly an interesting question.

Well this is really confusing! It's almost impossible! 3 eggs a day from one female? But not so often?

Sadly my little Goldie was killed by a skunk who invaded the quail pen. Before she was taken away I learned she laid on a 25 hour cycle for the most part but only one egg a day. Ive never heard of laying more than one egg per day. That is some super quail you have there if you are getting more than one egg per day from them.

I'me heard of one egg every 18 hours.. Don't know if it's true though. Nor how often that happens.

I thought so too, but have seen it happen. Only seems possible when they first reach point of lay though from my experience. Have frequently had two eggs a day from only one female though.

So sorry to hear that.

Does anyone else get more than one egg a day??????

Thank you...hard lesson to learn about making the pen a Fort Knox pen. I think I solved the problem, fingers cross that I dont lose any more.

So yes, Im curious too, any other multiple egg layers out there?
