Does anyone know what breed she is?

I know. I'm always leery of saying the legs are thick, or the shape is off....don't want to offend anyone, you know

So, way off chicken topic...but at work we were talking about when folks blunder and ask a woman if she's pregnant and she's not, it's just a a belly. One woman said she used to be offended, but now she's just flattered they think she's still young enough to get pregnant

I know I need to clean out everything in the coop. What would you suggest for getting rid of them?
Yeah you have to clean every nook and corner of the coop, including the roosts. I personally would bleach everything in the coop, including the walls. For treatment of the hens(or roos), you have to smother/suffocate the mites that are in their legs and feet, so I would smother their legs in Vaseline or bag balm. I'm not sure how long you have to keep reapplying it. I would keep everyone's legs and feet covered in Vaseline/bag balm for at least a week. Hopefully this will get rid of it for you.

According to this...

You don't need to disinfect, etc. The mite spends it's entire life cycle on the bird, not in the coop. Just treat the bird and you're good to go.
Really? That's interesting. Thank you for letting me know that. From what I had read you were supposed to disinfect the coop as well as treat the bird. I always disinfect the coop whenever things like that pop up. Better to be safe then sorry in my opinion.
