Does Anyone Know What Kind Of Spider This Is? Is It Dangerous?

The kids named her "Charlotte"... (I know.. how original huh?)

She's beautiful...........but obviously taking up quite a bit of space on your deck

You could move her....... and if you're still unsure of her classification (poisonous/non-poisonous) contact your nearest state park, email them, send them your fantastic photos (whatever), they will surely let you know her status. That's what they're there for

By the way, your sig says your hubby "tolerates" your hobby.........reassure him that it's therapy (the chickens)! There is no argument in that

Our plan was to have 6 hens......now we're 25+ laying and umpteen babies and broodies galore......he knows that they relax me.........and if mama aint happy---aint NOBODY happy!!

Ok I am not a spider lover, but that web is GORGEOUS!!!! If it harmless, leave it be. My instinct when I see one is SMASH IT NOW, but after being ID'd as non-toxic, leave her alone.

How would I move her? If I relocate her to another part of the yard, will she still return to the deck? I don't think I have the guts to attempt it

Beautiful photo! We had a large spider making a huge web from the carport to my SUV. She was there for a week then moved on. I would watch her closely for hours building her web. I thought how cool it would be to have it on a video.
I do love spider webs but it is quite upsetting to run into them when you least expect it. We have banana spiders here. Their webs are very thick and if you run into them.they go..POING!! hard to break them. they just stretch... ***shudder***

Thanks Deb.. The flash on the camera made it glisten so it picked it up. I was trying to get video, but it was too dark and couldn't see the web. It is really pretty. By morning, its destroyed..

Hey, Chickie... we are still waiting for her to write an important message.. til' then, we will just enjoy the beauty in her work. She definately eats well, the web has nothing but holes in it by morning. Is she getting ready to lay eggs?

And they'll USE them to eat your children and beloved pets...

I hate to tell you this, Red, but PIGS have fangs! Boars, anyway.

Its those little beady eyed.. fanged .. eight legged things that jump ON you and GRAB you that do me in...
Trust me.. she'll miss her children when it decides to attack...

When my son was 3 or 4 we had orb spiders everywhere (we called them Charlotte spiders, too). He came into my room one morning with a closed fist and a proud announcement," Mommy-ow" I caught a - ow! Charlotte spider--ow!" She was pinching him but it didn't leave a mark. So I'm pretty sure your beautiful orb won't harm your kids.
