Does anyone know what would happen if...

That made me laugh right out loud! Good call MP. I just happened to have these two white orp pullets and was wondering what to do with them other than add them to DW's layer flock.

You are right- Diesel with the SS could be a really good thing. I'm starting a new post.

Also, no I wasn't thinking they would be spotted, I was wondering if I could get splashes from them. I am trying to get some BBS orps going without having to order a bunch more eggs in the meantime (even though I am currently lining up a lot of egg orders for them this fall.) I am just trying to get a jump on it. I will just add these pretty ladies to DW's layer flock because we really like the eggs they produce. On with the plan!

aCCORDING TO Will Burdett and Joseph Batty who are considered experts in the field of Orpingtons wrote in their Book The Orpington Fowl that the Blues were introduced by William Cook the creator of the Orpington Breed in 1908. They were produced by breeding Black orpingtons to Whites. The White Orpington was created out of a totally different type of chickens than the Blacks. They thought the blues were the truest to type that they had created.
Buster I don't know what would happen for you but I am just telling you what it says in this book.

Thanks Julie. I think I'll just put those girls with DW's layer flock. She has been hassling me because I have been claiming chickens for certain pens as they grow up.

I like MissPrissy's idea to breed Diesel to the SS and work with that a bit. I need more BBS orps, but plan on hatching as many as I can this fall. Plus I do have a black pullet and a splash cockerel, as well as Diesel, so I will be saving her eggs too- as soon as they get here that is!

The blue orp was developed and introduce by his daughter years after his death. She developed the breed under the business name of her father she inherited at his death.

Your perfectly right about the introduction MP. It was after his death. I am sorry I was scanning the page without my glasses on and it a dark room. I haven't had time today to go and finish reading the enire chapter. We have a Family Reunion on my DH 's side here at our house tomorrow so I have been on Puter during my breaks.

I had the book in my lap looking for the type of white orp it was she used. There seems to be some dispute as to the back ground of the white orps in question and even though they were white there was something different about them but the story black and white to make blue is the one that stuck and was told.

I have been reading everything I can find to understand the genetics but I am not too convinced I know alot yet. LOL

Yes, I have learned a lot but am still a relative newby when it comes to genetics. It has to be in simple terms for me and really I like pictures to explain. I keep reading and trying to acquire a little knowlege and wisdom on this stuff.
