One of my buddies birds... ive never seen it... it all swollen in the crop area!! He feeds purina game bird chow like i do... he said his kids may have fed em some grasshoppers??.....

I told him to get some crushed chick grit to give em just incase they cant grind up food in their crop.... thats all i know...

How long has it been this way? If just today then give it time with the grit to aid the grinding and fresh water. Then I would proceed to the article and try to empty the crop. Good Luck and let us know the outcome.

Yes, you need to do something quick or the bird can die. Feel the crop....is it hard or soft? If it is soft, you need to hold the bird forward beak down. and apply some pressure to the crop area. As soon as the fluid starts to come up, count to 2 and right the bird back up. Give the bird a moment to catch her breath, and do it again. Don't hold the bird down more than a couple seconds as they can breathe this fluid into the lungs and die. Give her probiotics in her water for one week to rebuild the lost good bacteria in the crop.

If this is a hard ball in the crop, you need to not feed her for 24 hours and fluids only with crop massages to break up the ball.

I let mt buddy know what yall said today he said he would work on here this afternoon and see what happens. I havent heard from him yet, but I told him what was going on and what to do. I'll check back in a day or two. We are pretty sure his young girls fed them grass hoppers just being kids and having fun. So thats all we can guess of what caused it. we will see what happens, either way we are better prepared if it happens again.
