Does anyone make rag quilts?

Ok, I must be seriously out of the loop (not surprizing,

) because I had to go and look up Rag Quilt to find out what you all meant.

This looks so cool!! I've done crazy quilts, and pattern quilts before, but always got hung up on the actual quilting part. This would work very nicely, because I can quilt each piece before assembly. They are cool and funky, too - I saw some that were absolutely beautiful on google.

Looks like it is time to service the old sewing machine and get it oiled and tightened.... Meri has a winter project, now.

(thanks for posting this and giving me something MORE to do,

)

I killed a brand new washer with a rag quilt!!

Honest!! I made a twin size rag quilt from jeans and different colored patches on the opposite side. Not thinking I put it in the washer to fuz it out. Oh it fuzzed all right!!!

When we finally got the washer apart, it looked like there was a pair of jeans stuck between the drum and the spinner basket!!!

I have never made another quilt using jeans!!!!

PS. You can see the dreaded quilt here http://www.geocities.com/wolfwindspirit/QUILT11.html

Yeah, I plan to take mine to the laundromat when it is done to wash it, LOL that way it isn't gumming up my machines. Their machines are more specified for heavy duty stuff like that. I imagine they have more filters than a home machine would.

i got a pair of really sharp pointy garden shears and used those when cutting my rag quilts to get them to fringe.
cost about 22 bucks but well worth it. look in the garden or hardware sections.

Holy moly! Thankfully that did NOT happen to me, but you can bet that I will think twice about washing a new rag quilt in my washer again! Just what I don't need is to have to buy a new washer because of a quilt project gone wrong! DH would not be thrilled.

I got a pair at one of the local guilt stores. Their called ragging scissors. They aren't spring loaded like the fiskars, but they are sharp, don't go dull as fast as my fiskars and I actually found that it was quicker to use them than the fiskars.
It cut my time in half spent clipping.
