I'm still scooping poop 2-5 times a day. I wasn't expecting such a warm winter. I enjoy the time with my birds. The deep litter method is just not working like I thought it would.lol
I use pine shavings and change it out once a week. My coop is only 5x5 and have 6 hens on 2 roosts. I would love to have poop board as that would save the shavings but the height of the coop does not allow it. Sand is another option and would be great but my wife does not want it in the coop. I pull out some nasty stuff here and there but still have not had any issues with an amonia smell.
I don't put anything on the floor. Mine is concrete, so once it is covered in poo, I just scrape and shovel it all out. Usually once a month. I don't like the poo just sitting there and pretending the floor is clean just because someone calls a deep bed a "method."
