Are the eggs fertile cause I read its hard to incubate eggs cause they got so many feathers I heard if you scissors and cut around their vent areas just a bit to make it less fluffy it helps.

first to hatch,
i believe they were fertile because one of the eggs broke showing sign of some life growing in it. I hope they'll try a better set of eggs in the spring, but when their disturbed to often they cant do what they need to do. Thanks for that tip i appeciate it!

I have English Budgerigar and Regular Parakeets. I have raised both for many years now. The English Budgerigar was developed from the original Grass Parakeet (Common Wild Budgerigar) of Australia. Over the years the birds were bred for larger size, bigger heads, etc.

Many years ago when I first started with them I had English males and regular females, and selected the best babies from those breedings to breed back to the English males, until I had my own stud of pure English again. After the initial 3 years of breeding I started to breed the babies together.

There are two organizations here in the States that deal with the English Budgerigar. The American Budgerigar Association and the Budgerigar Association of America. They both publish a bi-monthly journal that lists breeders of English Budgerigars. They also have a listing of the different clubs and shows around the country.

There is a third organization as well, The World Budgerigar Organization which is based in Europe, but has members all around the globe.

If you care to you can pm me and I will see if there are any breeders near you that you can contact.

Coming from someone who has worked with many bird species over the years let me just say it depends on what you want in a bird. Do you want one that can come out of its cage and interact with you. Finches and canaries don't really fit that category. Do you want one that can talk? Conures and budgies can but aren't as clear as the larger parrots. Noise level? Depending on the conure expect to go insane with the unbelievable decibel level they can reach. Nandays come to mind as one of the worst offenders. Green-cheeks and Maroon-bellies on the other hand are quiet in comparison. Neatness? Of all my birds my budgies were always the messiest feather and seed wise. Each bird has its pluses and minuses so you just have to find the one that meets your needs.

I have two english and 30 plus american budgies. I heard with english budgies you gotta pluck there vent feather to get a sucessful clutch for me that method works. :)
