Does anyone start over EVERY spring? NPIP process?

I'm a little unclear on the entire scenario here overall. Are you going to be keeping two residences in different states, and moving between those two for the seasons, or are you going to be moving and seeking a new place to live each season? Because if it was the latter, honestly I wouldn't keep birds at all. That sounds like it would be hellish moving back and forth that way.

If you're going to maintain the same two places, who will be living there in the off seasons? I might try to see if the birds couldn't stay at the homes if you could find people you trust to take care of them.

. Maybe states without large poultry industry have less concern.

it's the commercial operations they are trying to protect as they are the food supply chain that effects our whole nation and it's economy...

I'm not sure that I agree with that. I think the ones with larger poultry production tend to have a lot of concern because of your second comment about the economy. They are wanting to protect the commercial operations because of all the jobs they provide and the tax money. I don't think they are that worried about us other than our flocks can infect the commercial operations.

Then each state is different in how they approach it. It's hard to generalize. Poultry was very big in Arkansas, that's Tyson's headquarters. The regulations were not all that bad, but they were pretty well organized to track down diseases when they showed up.

Maintaining 2 residences, sort of... building a new home in a new state eventually, will be back and forth until new home is built and old home is sold. We'll likely have a summer home and winter home for a few years.

Wondering if anyone with a summer home and winter home successfully keeps chickens, if they move their chickens with them every 6 months back and forth or if they start over in spring and just keep chickens in the summer.

I enjoy keeping chickens and ducks and am just trying to figure out how to make it work while building a house, and maybe the real answer is that I give up keeping poultry for a few years until life settles down. I don't know!

That is essentially what I meant. :thumbsup
